Children's Music

The nursery rhymes yesterday got me thinking about children's music. They aren't children's music, per se, but BG and I listen to The Beatles together a lot. Paul McCartney wrote a lot of goofy songs, and BG seems to really like them--and I do, too. She even likes their non-goofy songs. But what about music actually written for kids?

We have a lot of "kids" albums... some are tolerable, just classic nursery rhymes, which aren't bad. Some are odd--my wife has these albums of Beatles and Led Zepplin done as lullabies. But most of the stuff is just god awful. I know TMBG and Barenaked Ladies have some kids albums out, which I've heard are pretty good. Any other recommendations out there?

Four and Twenty Blackbirds

Sing a song of sixpence a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened the birds began to sing,
Oh wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king?
The king was in his counting house counting out his money,
The queen was in the parlour eating bread and honey
The maid was in the garden hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird and pecked off her nose!

Listening to nursery rhyme songs with BG, I've discovered many nursery rhymes have violent and disturbing imagery. Awesome.
