Conversations with the Toddler

Today we had a great time. We went to a local children's museum and proceeded to flit from exhibit to exhibit and back again as only a toddler with a two-minute attention span can. BG's favorite thing was a water exhibit with many different activities, all designed to splash and spray water everywhere. Yes, it was chaos, and yes, I had a blast.

Afterward, we went to lunch and BG was dragging. I thought it was going to be one of those outings, but she ended up being very good until near the end of the meal, when she'd finished (and her mother and I were still eating) and decided that she wanted to get down. After wrestling with her, we finally both finished and I said, "BG, do you see all the people in the restaurant? When they are finished eating, they are all sitting nicely. What do you think mommy does when she is finished eating?"

"Sits down?"

"Yes. And what does daddy do when he's finished eating?"

"Sits down."

"So, what should you do when you are finished eating?"

"Get down!" And she proceeded to jump down from the table and start running in circles around the restaurant.
