This post is written to BG, someday, I hope to share it with her.
BG, today, some friends invited us to a Halloween celebration, where there were a ton of other kids in costumes, a bouncy castle, a mini-petting zoo, and all kinds of other activities. I always have the best time in the world when we go to things like this with you. I love watching you have fun, explore new things, and just revel in the world around you.
I can't think of a better way to spend my day.
Today was no exception. You looked really adorable in the Bee costume your mother picked out for you. And all the way to the party, you kept going, "Buzz! Buzz!" You also made me sing a song to you that went "Up, up, up, down, down, down" over and over again.
When we got to the party, you spotted the bouncy castle right away, and made a bee-line for it. It was filled with kids who twice or three times your age, and they were careening around, bouncing into each other all over. That didn't stop you. You climbed in cautiously, and then stopped inside to gather your wits, before going all out and jumping with the other kids. You held your own against them all, and I practically had to go in and drag you out.
Already, just as a toddler, I can see that you approach new things cautiously, but you don't let adversity stand in the way of what you want. Other little kids would have been scarred about jumping with all the older kids. You were a little afraid, but you really wanted to jump. So you went in cautiously, and then went for what you wanted. It's how you approach many situations these days.
It was a similar story at the petting zoo. They had goats, sheep, a rabbit, a pot-bellied pig, geese, ducks and chickens. You were a little stunned by the array of animals to pet, but that didn't stop you. You surveyed all the animals, and then went for it. Petting "your bunny" and walking around to look at the chickens. We had to drag you away from the petting zoo, too.
On the way home, you were quite the chatterbox. You had a little light someone had given you, and you were singing into it like a microphone. You were making up songs and singing your heart out. I loved every minute of it. Never stop singing and never stop pursuing your dreams. Don't ever let someone stand in the way of achieving your goals. I'm always going to be your number one fan, and no matter what you choose to do in life, if you approach it with that same sense of caution--assessing the situation first, and then going for your goal--you are going to be successful. But even when you fail, I will always love you, and just hearing your voice will make my day.
